Sewage Rebirth Road - Six Water Experts Plan to Build Wastewater Concept Plant

Supermarkets in Singapore sell a bottle of water called "NEWater" (new water). It can always be seen in various conferences organized by the government. Even the local “New Water Exhibition Hall” has become a “scenic spot” for tourists from all over the world.
The predecessor of “new water” is production and domestic sewage – wastewater that flows out of the factory every day and water that flows into the gutters in residential buildings. In 2002, with the membrane technology originating from space research, Singapore turned sewage into a reusable water source, and made this intentionally misspelled word “NEWater” ever in history.
In late January 2014, Wang Hongchen, deputy dean of the School of Environment of Renmin University of China, told the Caixin reporter about the old thing in the sewage laboratory with various chemical flavors.
The purpose of telling the story is that he and five other Chinese water experts plan to build a sewage concept factory in China for 2030 to 2040 in five years. The news was officially released to the whole country on February 14. "NEWater" is one of their reference models.
The reason why the six water experts did this was due to serious dissatisfaction with the status quo of China's sewage treatment. By 2013, China has built and operated more than 3,500 sewage treatment plants with a daily treatment capacity of 140 million cubic meters. China has become the world's largest sewage disposal country, but China is by no means a strong sewage treatment country.
Industry experts generally believe that there are at least four major problems in the field of sewage treatment in China: First, the construction of sewage plants has made a great leap forward in recent years, but the pipe network support is lagging behind, resulting in the idle capacity of a large number of treatment plants. Second, the phenomenon of “extracorporeal circulation” of sewage is more common. Capital and management issues, the sewage plant does not treat part of the sewage; the third is that China has a large amount of sewage, and even if it meets the standards under the existing standards, it often causes more serious water pollution; fourth, the pollutants in the sewage are ultimately not fundamental. Treatment, with more than 80% of untreated sludge returning to the natural environment.
The extent to which the six experts' wastewater concept plants can solve the above problems. Experts involved believe that the “extracorporeal circulation” of pipe network and sewage is a social problem, but the concept plant will undergo a complete revolution in wastewater treatment standards and sludge issues. The existing water treatment process can completely treat the sewage into Singapore-like “NEWater”, making the sewage a resource again.
“Sewage plants are synonymous with ‘dirty and stinky’ in people's minds, but we want everyone to see that through hard work, sewage treatment plants can also become 'high-end atmosphere grades.'” Wang Hongchen said.
The concept factory of the six experts has not yet had a substantial operation, and they are ready to build the factory in five years. The factory will use their ideas and technology, and the future may cooperate with local governments and enterprises to let the factory fall.
It’s not easy to find new ones. It is not yet known whether the ideas of the six experts will finally land. In the future, there will be a series of problems such as capital, technology choices, ideals and reality collisions waiting for them.
But obviously, the philosophy and direction of the six experts are correct, and the Chinese sewage industry needs this kind of exploration.
